Well the whole thing is just that.
Speculation and claims of ulterior motives. Idle conjecture. Judging
people's motives. Sounds like a spy novel.
The truth is...if WSJZ was making 'the nut'...it would stay on the air.
They are not....so they change. Thats how radio-tv programming works. (Same
goes for Filene's Basement.)
A healthy roster of clients? Thats says nothing...until we know what spot
rates are being charged. (If the spots are a "dollar-a-holler", then no one
is making money.)
And WSJZ's sales staff "outsells" WMJX? Is there any info to back that up?
(If they outsold MJX, then they wouldn't be changing.)
And yes, it's understandable that Jazz promoters, record labels and jazz
clubs/cruises...are not happy with the change...would anyone expect them to
be? And yes, the employees are not happy either...I feel for them
I also feel for people who loved the music that was broadcast from WSJZ. It
will definitely leave a void and be a loss.
However, this sounds like a story of "if we repeat something often
enough...it must be true!" Moreso, it looks like the repeated regurgitation
and grumblings of those who will lose out monetarily, put in some sort of a
'news release' form.
And I'm sure the managements is making this decision simply because they
dislike Jazz music. (Sarcasm intended.)
Have any of these "Campains to Save the Format" ever worked?
The MusicAmerica group seemed to put forth the best effort...and that with a
non-comm station...and they had no effect.
Where were all these people when the ratings were being talllied?
For all we know, the person behind this "campain" is the wife of a jazz club
owner, record promoter or operator of a Jazz Cruise line.
Just my $.02
