That's because the engineering-minded students who might have, in past
decades, been drawn towards audio and RF electronics, are being drawn
instead to other technologies.  Such as, for example, the ones that make
this mailing list possible. :-)

Seriously, who will they be able to find to be the chief engineers of
radio and TV stations once the current generation retires?  No offense
to the fine CEs who inhabit this list, but it's not really perceived
by a lot of today's students to be all that glamorous a field of work
as perhaps it once was.
