it is aftra that radio talk show hosts are under and the union has complained
to the station that howie's sidekicks are not union, therefore should not be
allowed on the air unless they receive union wages. according to the boston
globe, when they did a story on ray flynn getting a show on saturdays, they
stated that the aftra hourly rate is somewhere between $40-50. when i was
considering doing the same thing vb does, the going rate was about $6 an
hour, although i am sure that vb gets more than that. not only that but it
costs about $900 to join aftra annually, and there isn't any job search
services, placement or anything, which is why i have never joined.
