RE: EAS

At 1:15pm MediaOne interrupted most (not all, New England Cable News and HBO were unaffected) channels for a LONG EAS test - first the three short tone bursts - then three long bursts of 3 different tones each - followed by a totally unintelligible message in a female voice - sounded like it came from underwater! I called Sue Bennet, local PD at the Lowell office of MediaOne and she was watching the same thing in shock - not even knowing how it got on her system. Hmmmmmmmmm!

Just heard the WBZ initiated EAS test on WXRV (92.5, Haverhill) at
2:16 p.m., right over the music audio! Something tells me that isn't
the spirit of regs. that drive EAS! Slightly over to WBOS (92.9,
Brookline) they relayed the test after a song ended. Interesting
idea.
