I couldn't agree more. The stunting had its own problems, but this "real
format" makes the stunting sound (in retrospect) really great. (I'm ashamed
of myself for missing the fact that 3279 in WPLM's new toll-free phone
number spells Easy on the telephone. Anyone who noticed two days ago could
have had a two-day lead on what the "new format" was about. Maybe it's
better that I didn't figure it out.)
The Easy format is devoid of focus or character. Sounds as if WPLM
management is clueless and the format is doomed. During the stunting, there
were quite a few fine songs, especially the ones recorded by Tony Bennett.
You say that you heard a big-band instrumental today. Dang! I must have
missed today's big-band instrumental. In about four hours of nearly
continuous listening, I did catch two whole instrumentals. (Actually, they
might not have been whole; seemed kind of short; could have been edited.)
One was the original "Cast Your Fate to the Winds" (with abysmal audio
quality). Can't recall the other--might have been "Like Young."
For six days, I thought we might be getting something that could replace
WQEW. Can you say "dashed hopes?" As someone who really likes classic
popular music, my impression is that 1999 is unlikely to be any sort of
Happy New Year. Sigh.
