I taped WQEW on Sunday night from 10:45 pm until
12:15 am --the signal started to get faint and
distorted just before midnight, but I did hear Stan Martin's thanks
and the Randy Newman song (I believe it was from "A Bug's Life").
There was also an announcement saying that "today's programming on
WQEW has been paid for by ABC Radio" or something like that. A little
kid could be heard saying "AM 1560, Radio Disney, New York".
The program before the changeover made no mention of
the impending format change (it was actually a
re-run of sorts). We can only imagine people the next
morning tuning in expecting to hear standards and
getting "Mmm-Bop" by Hanson. (Probably the closest
thing to the old format might be a song like "When
You Wish Upon A Star").
Yes, Disney...the one company that doesn't mind
being called a Mickey Mouse organization... :)
