While I agree with the first paragraph I have to remind you that corporate
cultures have changed. The Bill Paleys have given way to the Carl Ikahn
(something like that) who would take a company on a hostile takeover and
pare it down to its profitable threads. Paley would have been overthrown
the minute he tried something unprofitable.
It is an unfortunate reality that many of the most stable and respectable
corporations have been taken over by the Wall Street Whores. The bean
counters have taken over the industry and the people that built it have
been pushed out.
