news on the weekend re-visited

Well, I would imagine that for a PD of a news or talk station, a news story
that breaks on the weekend can mean some big decisions-- do you pre-empt
your regular (and often syndicated or specialty) weekend shows or not? I
noticed tonight that WBZ Radio pre-empted "Calling All Sports" to continue
to cover the Presidential impeachment issue, whereas WRKO carried the
President's speech but then went back to its regularly scheduled holistic
health show (perhaps the "Talk Station" will talk about it all later tonight?).

As for sports radio, naturally, WEEI ignored the entire thing-- but I would
ask you nice folks who are involved with specialty formats-- do you ever
break format to insert a news event, even briefly (like war being declared
or a president resigning or whatever), or do you assume that if people
wanted news, they would be listening to a news station?
