Maybe there will be a few songs played, even if they're
oldies like "We're the Cops of the World" by Phil Ochs.
I'm sure there are a few politically oriented folk
artists out there, but most folks probably don't go for
that...Just like something comic Jimmy Tingle said
last night during his interview with Tai on WRKO--
"I try to do political humor, but people are tired of
politics and current events--they'd rather have me
do sex jokes".
Maybe the same applies to folk music performers and
audiences/ listeners. They want an "escape" from the
political woes of the world.
Incidentally, this might be a good chance to plug what
I think is a great folk show, and you can hear it on
the Net (though I get tapes of it from a friend in
Ohio)-- folk music with host Jim Blum on WKSU in
Kent, Ohio (http://www.wksu.org). He's on weekend
nights. Not much political stuff there either, but
I think he does a great mix of folk styles.
