In the credit where credit is due department, both WBCN and WFNX, which
normally don't have any news in the evening, devoted some time to deliver
the news about Iraq last evening. They still continued their music formats,
but the DJs on both stations delivered news during the breaks, and it sounded
to me like they were breaking more frequently than usual. FNX even called
in their morning news guy, Henry Santoro, to provide coverage. BCN directed
listeners to tune in to Channel 4 (surprise, surprise), but also gave
frequent news updates for the benefit of those in their cars. Anybody
know what other music-format stations were doing last night?
As for WBZ radio, well, when you have a contract to broadcast Bruins hockey,
you gotta run the game regardless of whatever else is going on. I didn't
listen to them for long, but I'm certain they were carrying news during
the breaks (and probably directing folks to tune into Channel 4, too).
