Here in Los Angeles, the Car Capitol of the US of A..and the home of
"parking lot" traffic on the Freeways in rush-hour, no English radio
station simulcasts local TV news, (don't know about Spanish, Asian, etc.
stations...there are maybe 80 signals in the market). We do have,
however, "All-Traffic Radio, K-Traffic AM1650" (24/7) with five minutes
of live reports from a Metro Traffic studio, live helicopter inserts in
drivetime, and the CHP traffic scanner, followed by one minute of
commercial/promo.
What they talk about overnight when traffic is light, I don't know.
Mt. Wilson B'casters, Saul Levine, also owns KKHI San Francisco, KKGO in
LA, classical FM stations, also 540AM in Tijuana, a classical AM for San
Diego; and KGIL AM, the M-O-Y-L format in Beverly Hills. He has tried
different formats including "All Beatles Radio" (24/7) and "All
Showtunes Radio" (24/7) on an earlier KGIL. He has the only commercial
X-band station in town, usually reserved for CalTrans and community low
power signals. LAX airport information with traffic flow, terminal
directions, etc. is low power at 530AM.
KABC AM does simulcast about 5 minutes of a talk show (Larry Elder) with
a TV anchor, (Kerry Kilbride) at KCAL-TV9 on weekdays at 4:45 p.m. They
discuss a news topic, include one/two callers, and promo the E-mail
address on TV to contact Larry with your views on the news topic. KRLA
1110 AM has dropped oldies music and is now "LA Talk-News" with Michael
Jackson plus syndicated talk shows :( ...they could do a TV simulcast
if anyone would in LA.
And...KNX does simulcast "60 Minutes" on Sundays, plus OTR every night
9-10 p.m. and 2-3 a.m. in their all news format (except for football and
gavel-to-gavel OJ Simpson).
(Rant mode off, sorry)
*****Happy Holidays***** to all list members.
