TV news and newspapers vs. radio

There's an article in today's Boston Globe saying that
local TV news isn't being watched as much these days,
and not as many people are buying copies of the Globe
or Herald as before. The article had a few theories
for this, one of them being that people are stuck in
traffic more often... so maybe they're getting their
news on the radio instead. (It was said that the ratings for Boston
University's WBUR-FM, a news-heavy
NPR station, have gone up 66 per cent.)

Probably not too surprising. Speaking of people "not
getting home in time to watch the TV news" due to
traffic, I know that some radio stations actually
simulcast the 6pm newscast of a local TV station, so
that people can get their "TV news" while stuck in
traffic. I'd heard such a "TV newscast" on the radio
while travelling this summer, and someone on this list
sent me a tape of WODT (AM 1280) near New Orleans,
which also simulcasts the TV news. A trend? Can you
picture Boston's Ch. 4, 5, or 7 simulcasting their
news on a lower-powered AM station, for example?
