WQEW/ maybe WEVD ? (was Re: Popular Standards in NYC)

No doubt, the loss of WQEW will be a blow for those of us who
really enjoy great "American Popular Standards". Consider me to be
one of WQEW's many fans. I agree that Mr. Low DID go a bit overboard
in equating the loss of WQEW to the atrocity that was "Kristillnacht",
during the early years of the Holocaust. I don't think, however, that
he intentionally meant to offend the readers of this forum (IMHO). I
myself feel that it was NOT the proper example to be used in his
posting. I could think of better examples to get the thought out.
Hopefully, he will heed this advice, "Think before you write". It
might also be a good idea for Mr. Low to apologize to those he might
have inadvertently offended. I'll leave it at that.
WQEW will be missed. I'm hoping that one of the other big signal
AM's in NYC would adopt the "American Standards" format for part or
all of the day. My thought would be for WEVD/1050 to maybe take the
torch. I know WEVD is mainly brokered, but, if Jonathan Schwartz
would maybe get enough people to invest $$$$$ to buy the time (or
maybe just evenings and overnights), it could probably work. He could
recoup the cost of the time by selling spots. Hey, this is New York
City we're talking about, folks, the number one radio and market in
the world. It could possibly work. Who knows..... Now, as for The
New York Times, they have really "SCROOGED" this one up. Add another
lump of coal in their stockings. Hum-bug ! :(
