WHET (ex-WCRB, ex-WDLW, now WRCA) changed from its three-tower array on
South St in Waltham to its current two-tower array at the same site sometime
in 1977, if memory serves. So, consistent with my AM-directional-geek hobby,
I listened to the station _a lot_ at that time. I do not recall the
beautiful music format, but perhaps Bob Bittner does; he worked at 1330
(whatever the calls were at the time) sometime around then. All I remember
is the big-band/nostalgia format with Johnny Towne in AM drive, Betty Daye
during midday, and Bill Marlowe in PM drive. I have no recollection of who
did evenings or overnights, but I think it must have been locally originated
because I don't think that satellite-delivered programming existed yet.

One program that I do recall, though, was Sam Poulten's "Your Mother Should
Know" which aired Saturday evenings and later was on WNTN on Saturday
mornings. Sam, whose day job at the time was teaching school (he later
became a real-estate agent), played really old records from the 20s and 30s
and did phone-in contests. The production was very rough, but the program
was quite enjoyable to people "of a certain age."
