WLNG has had great billing for many years. If the station had zero audience,
then the advertising would not be effective for the client, and the
advertising would be pulled. WLNG does well because they are LOCAL. Many of
the other stations on the East End either simulcast other stations from Nassau
County (WDRE, WBAB, Y107 etc.) or are satellite/automation-driven. WLNG is
live most of the time and has a solid, comprehensive local news force which
covers primarily East End stories. The station has a presence at most major
community events in most of the towns in Suffolk County. If you want to know
what is going on on the East End, you turn to WLNG. WLNG also has a solid
commitment to local scholastic sports programming. The station does extremely
well considering the amount of FM signals in that very small (unrated) market.

I grew up in Southeastern CT so I grew up with WLNG, so for the "untrained
ear" the station sounds like a "toilet." However, they represent what many
people on this list have said they wanted--Localized radio.
