That's probably due to the condition called "terminator skip" in the
hours just as dawn is approaching -- radio waves in the AM band
propagate quite well along the north-south boundary (diffused though it
may be) between night and the coming day. So, very often AMer's in the
Caribbean and the Maritimes can be heard clearly for awhile as their
signal follow that line.
