Unfortunately the qualities that are part of an entertaining air personality
are usually not the same qualities that make an effective sales person or
producer.
And these are really two full time jobs. If he were to sell the show and run
the business that would be built up around it, it arguably would distract
from the time and energy he has to devote to the air product.
There is no reason why the station can not more effectively and efficiently
take on the marketing and business functions if it wants to.
I'm sure Capstar is not stupid and knew very well what Bell's reaction would
be.
