CBS heritage newscasts (was Re: The ABC/FM Network)

Martin J. Waters wrote about CBS Radio: "The 15-minute newscasts, World
News Roundup at 8 a.m. and World Tonight at 8 p.m. (5 p.m. Pacific
time!), were being cut off even by the o-and-o's."

For the record, that 8pm feed was for the other coast; stations on the
eastern line got The World Tonight (with Douglas Edwards for many years)
at 6pm. The west's feed of World News Roundup (longtime province of
Dallas Townsend) also came 2 hours after the eastern feed, making WNR a
7am program in the Pacific zone.

MJW: "I believe those newscasts now are 10 minutes, but hardly any
stations, including the all-news o-and-o's, stay past the outcue at
:05."

Right in the morning, not quite in the evening. Sometime within the
last 3 years WNR was trimmed to10 minutes and the Saturday edition was
dropped. WT was cut back to 9 minutes at least a year before WNR was
shortened. WKXL is among stations that still carry these newscasts
right to the end.

While I'm picking at nits here, I erred in a post yesterday about
Mystery Theater being fed at 10:06pm; make that 10:07pm.
