Umm, sorry to dispel a legend, but WSAR was a sequential call letter with no
meaning whatsoever attached to it when it was assigned by the Department of
Commerce. It was the station's General manager who came up with the slogan
later on. This happened in many cities-- in Atlanta, for example, WSB, also
did not stand for anything when it was assigned, but a year later, they held
a contest and decided it should stand for "welcome south, brother."
