Phasing; was: "QUAD" Broadcasts......

Which reminds me of a question I had on a different sort of phasing
trouble. I once worked as a board op at WLKW-AM near the end of it's life.
One Saturday during a thunderstorm, the FM suddenly went off the air. The
engineer at the WNAC transmitter site in Rehoboth said that lightning had
struck the tower and had knocked the electricity out of phase. The
electric company was on route, he said. Needless to say, the FM jock was
powerless (pun intended!) to do anything until the power at the site was
fixed. Channel 64 was also knocked off the air.
How common a phenomenon is this? That was the first I'd heard of it, and
it kept the FM off the air for close to an hour.
