Challenger explodes-January 28, 1986

I was at WRKO, then at 3 Fenway Plaza, in what was the Harvard Community
Health Plan building, doing some research for on the Jerry Williams show
guests for that day at 2 PM...I heard John Masters with a news bulletin on
the in-house monitor. We cancelled the guest appearance, and that afternoon
Jerry took calls for four hours about the Challenger tragedy, interspersed
with experts we could find in real time. Back in that day, there was no
e-mail, so we called around to find MIT professors, NASA folks on Houston,
and anyone else who was expert in space technology. We didn't know what
"O-Rings" were at that time, but we would soon learn about them.
