WFAU drops nostalgia for sports

Clear Channel's 1280 WFAU Gardiner has dropped nostalgia and is now
simulcasting all-sports 1160 WSKW Skowhegan.

The move leaves the Augusta market without a nostalgia format. Maybe Citadel
will pick up the format on their AMs in the market -- 1400 WEZW Augusta and
1490 WTVL Waterville, which are being wasted as simulcasts of WMME and WEBB
respectively.

The link below will take you to a Kennebec Journal story on the changes. The
article quotes Norm Gallant talking about putting the station on the air in
1946. The station that Gallant put on the air in 1946 is now Christian 1340
WMDR Augusta. The WFAU call letters moved to 1280 a few year ago. 1280 went
on the air in 1969 as WABK.
